“畫樹長春”出于六朝庾信文章《至仁山銘》，文中寫“真花暫落，畫樹長春”，表達了文人游仁山時對美景易逝的感嘆。不曾想此“畫樹長春”竟曾被吳昌碩題于任伯年畫冊之上。1886年，任伯年作花鳥冊贈鼐臣。1910年，吳昌碩題跋此冊，書“畫樹長春”，并稱任伯年作畫“落筆入飛，神在個中”，可見吳氏對任伯年花鳥畫超越自然局限、駐留永恒之美的精妙贊頌。1926年五月，馮幵、沙孟海來訪禪甓軒，吳昌碩曾與其談任伯年故事。因此，十六年后吳昌碩再書此四字，是感嘆藝術生涯的永不凋零，更是寓意代代傳遞之藝術精神的長春向榮。此時回望，這四個字也正是對吳昌碩藝術精髓的完美概括。吳昌碩晚年創(chuàng)作欲望極強，筆耕不輟，直至逝世前幾天還在寫詩作畫。他在八十三歲元日當天稱自己所書“筆虎詩龍”，可見此時正是其藝術創(chuàng)作筆墨熟成的巔峰時期。“畫樹長春”四字應是長峰羊毫為之，受石鼓文影響，吳昌碩以篆籀筆法寫行草，筆力遒勁。此作線條樸質沉澀，極具金石意味，可謂其晚年佳作。WU CHANGSHUO  CALLIGRAPHYInk on paper, mountedDated 1926138×32.5cmRMB: 800,000－1,200,000
